  Prologue

Dark-blue eyes gazed out the bay windows. The rain drizzled and still she stooped against the side of the brick building. Huddled, arms hugged across her jean-clad front. A ratty old red hoodie sagged over her head, hiding her face from Link’s gaze.

Link harrumphed. Knew for a fact that sweater was old and ratty. He had crossed paths with her last week, and it wasn’t until that day that he discovered the young kid taking up residency in the alley across the street from his loft was a girl. Pale, cream-colored skin, the biggest lavender eyes, and the softest pink lips. She had to be no older than fifteen.

He crossed his arms over his thick chest, pissed that such a young thing was out there all on her own. What was she doing out there? What would make such a young thing choose that kind of lifestyle? The whole situation made his heart clench at the thought of what could happen to her all alone.

A hard hand gripped his shoulder. “Are you watching that boy again?” Tank hummed, resting his chin on Link’s thick shoulder, his gaze landing on the poor kid. His body pressed into Link’s back, his other arm hugging Link close. He furrowed his brow in thought. It was only going to get colder out there. Maybe he would call one of the social workers, see what they could do for the kid.

Link glanced at him from the corner of his eye. “Not a boy, she’s a girl, maybe fifteen? Not sure on the age, got a peek at her the other day.”

Tank raised a thick blond brow. “Girl, what the fuck is a fifteen year old girl doing living in the alley?” he grumbled, eyes narrowing. He wasn’t so sure about the social worker. He’d seen how some of the girls turned out after being placed. Fuck, her circumstances could be worse than living out there in that alley. Yeah she might have a roof over her head and food in her belly, but it was the other dangers no one heard about. She’d be better off with them! Hey that wasn’t a bad idea.

Link half smiled. This was why he loved Tank. Six-foot-three thick barrel of a man had such a soft heart. Already he could see his brilliant mind at work of how to help the young girl. He reached back, his hand covering Tank’s. “Who knows… think we should invite her up? Feel bad her out there in this shit weather at least give her some shelter, find out her story. Help her.”

Tank grunted, giving Link’s shoulder a squeeze. “You honestly think she’ll come?” he mumbled, eyes on the girl. She would have better luck with them. They could take in a kid. How much work could she be? They had the room. She would have to get back to school, get a job, no way were they giving handouts. That wasn’t their thing, no handouts, but a hand up, absolutely. A flash of black caught his attention. This didn’t look good. Three tall hooligans headed down the alley toward her.

Link narrowed his eyes, watching three young men approach her. They didn’t live in a necessarily bad neighborhood. Hoodlums were everywhere. Knowing she was a girl and those were boys, he didn’t like where this could go at all. “Grab my coat, babe,” he murmured, jaw tensing as the three stopped in front of the girl.

A shiver of dread tore through Tank as the boys surrounded her, one shoving her back as she tried to push herself away from the wall. “Ah fuck, they know she’s a girl,” he uttered, a cold shiver tearing through him as they flipped her hood back. He watched as she tried to push one away, struggling to dart as the other two surrounded her. It was like watching a car crash in slow motion. You knew what was coming and you just couldn’t tear your gaze away.

Link heaved the door to their building open with such forc
e it slammed against the wall with a bang unheard by either man. “Hey, get the hell away from her!” he yelled already halfway to the group. He swore he would rip them apart! How dare they think they could go about terrifying little girls!

The tallest of the three turned, making sure to keep a grip on the scraggly blonde hair of his new prize. With a dirty, pockmarked face he glared at Link. “Mind your own fucking business, you prep,” he growled. The glare that followed made those pockmarks twist into a disgusting mask.

Link raised a narrow pointed black eyebrow. Did this little fucker just call him prep? “Get your goddamn hands off her now! Jane, get over here! Why in the hell are you out here anyway?” He hoped to God the girl would play along to get away from them.

Dania gripped her hair and pulled it from the man’s hand. She ducked under and raced to the dark-haired man who yelled at her attackers and hid behind him. Surely this was the safer side to be on in this situation. She could always run when the other three where gone. She peeked up at the hulk of a blond who stood next to the tanned man who now stood, his arm held out in front of her in a protective gesture.

She bit her lower lip, weighing her options. If she ran now these two would probably hold the other three off and she would have a good head start. Her heart sank. She would have to find another alley, another stupid box. She did see a hidden bench in the park a few blocks over.

Link narrowed his eyes on the three men. “Get the hell out of here, now,” he warned. He swore he would rip every one of them apart! He clenched his fist, raring to go.

The leader of the three stared him on, a stupid, daring look in his young eyes. Link curled his lip and narrowed his eyes, daring the youth to make a move. He waited and within heartbeats the three slinked back down the way they came.

Link inhaled, a calming breath releasing the tension in his body before he looked down at the girl. Already she had her hood back up, covering her features.

“Thanks, man,” she mumbled, hugging her wet coat closer and reluctantly edging away from them. What was stopping her? Why wasn’t she running from these two large men? She peeked at them from the tattered hoodie draped around her face.

Kind eyes, she knew kind eyes when she saw them and these two had kind eyes. Like the lady at that kitchen house down town. Tillie was her name and she always slipped her an extra bun to go.

“Nope, you come with us. They’ll be watching to get you later.” the dark one announced, taking hold of her arm and pulling her close.

There was no way he was leaving her out here to danger. He was sure they were just going to round the place and wait for her to be alone again. He was sure Tank would be okay if they had a short-term visitor.

“Look, man, I appreciate your help, but I think I know how to avoid them.”

Link released a scoff, his grip loosening, well if she wanted to play that game. He would play. “Fine you wanna deal with those three?” He turned his back on her, motioning for Tank to head back in. The hurt expression on Tank’s face hit him right in the heart. “You know they’re gonna follow you. Probably waiting and watching right now to see where you go,” he threw over his shoulder, hoping to scare her into staying. “We have an extra room. Heat, hot shower… Food…” he coaxed.

Dania looked the two men over through her hood. The big guy scared her, even if he had kind eyes. Shit, he was three times her size around. Mind you, she was five foot nothing and skinny as a twig. She hugged her tattered jean jacket closer around her thinning frame. “You two boyfriends or something?” she drawled, trying to hide the shiver from her voice.

The bigger of the two chuckled and the thick laugh warmed her heart. It had been a long time since she heard a true-to-God laugh like that. She hugged herself tighter. She missed happiness. What little happiness she had experienced so far.

“Yes,” he answered, hugging the dark-haired man close with one big, muscled arm.

Dania could see the muscles strain under the now-wet long-sleeved T-shirt, and shit if she didn’t want the big hulk of a man to hug her and protect her. “So you’re not gonna bugger with me?” she asked, eyes narrowing. She had to look out for herself. Always look after her own self, because no one else would. That’s what one of the street walkers had said. Hid her in an alley and said stay off the streets, away from the men. It wouldn’t be a good place for her.

Link nearly smiled. Good for her to ask up front. Stupid if she actually believed total strangers. Although in this case he needed her to believe them. She needed to get off the streets. “No… we offer you shelter and a safe place, of course, school will be mandatory and a part time job. We aren’t here to adopt you; you will take care of yourself, pay rent, set goals for yourself.”

Dania looked back to the alley she had been calling home for the last month. Her face scrunched as she looked at the building they had come from. She chewed her lower lip and her gaze landed on the two men who stood in the rain waiting for her.

She released a slow breath. She remembered a time when she could trust people. She had seen these two men off and on the last month. Shit, the blonde hulk had once shown up in a police uniform. The other one usually left in a suit. They couldn’t be bad, could they?

Her feet moved before she answered and she was surrounded by the two men, one on each side of her, as they led her to their warmth.

  Chapter One

  Six years later

Dania giggled as she tackled Tank to the floor, legs tangled in his. They fell with a loud “oomph!” “Shit little woman!” he bellowed out in laughter, easily lifting her and setting her aside.

Link laughed from the kitchen admiring the two’s wrestling. “You’re never gonna get him down and keep him down, Dania,” he called, casually slicing up a cucumber.

Dania fell back in a fit of giggles, hand hugging her bare tummy. “I got him down. That’s tough shit right there!” she uttered slowly, rising breathless and raring to go a second round. Her eyes twinkled with laughter as she flung herself at Tank.

Tank roared out in laughter as her puny little body pelted into him. His persistent little bug. Shit, he loved her enthusiasm.

Link chuckled, tossing the cucumber in the salad, grabbing up the oven mitts and tossed them at Tank, smacking his solid back. “Steaks, man, need to feed the endless pit on you,” he called across the room.

Tank hugged Dania close, pecking her on the temple. “Good try, Tiny, maybe next time?” he drawled, lifting her, and yet again set her aside, hopped to his feet, and left her in a huffing mess.

Dania slumped back on the rug, eyes closing catching her breath. “Need me to do anything?” she asked, not looking at either and waiting for her chores to be pelted out.

“Nope, we got it, Tiny. You do need to go put some more clothes on, you little exhibitionist,” Tank called casually as he headed out to the deck. He swore that piece of cloth she called a shirt was showing the underside of her breasts and shit if his dick wasn’t twitching at the sight.

Dania looked down at herself, brow furrowing. Cut-off tank top and her normal short shorts she always wore around the house. She glanced at Link. He was staring right at her. Her cheeks flushed. “Seriously?” she mumbled.

Link nodded. “Sorry, Tiny, you’re grown up, we are men, and no we’re not gay, we’re bi, remember?”

Dania scrambled to her feet and raced down the hall. Shit, she didn’t know they looked at her like that? Fuck, she had been living with them forever and they had not ever said anything. She pulled on a pair of old ripped jeans that she usually wore to the shop. No way was she putting on a sweater. It was way too hot for that.

She looked at her reflection in the mirror of the room they had given her in their new home. Streaked metallic blue-and-pink hair pulled back in a messy pony, teal tank top. Her eyes widened. Shit, her nipples were poking out!

She groaned in embarrassment, crossing to her drawer and digging through her intimates to pull out a padded bra. The last time she had gone the woman had pointed
the padded bras and said they wouldn’t only give her a lift but would hide other things as well. Now she knew what the hell the woman had meant because at the time she sure as hell hadn’t. God, could she be any more oblivious?

She flipped the tank off and caught her reflection and seized in fascination. A smile curved her lips. She was beautiful. She straightened out and looked herself full-on. Little round boobies sat high, narrow little waist and her hips flared beautifully.

She had observed pear-shaped women, box-shaped, round and plump. She liked the hour glass figure best and even had a tattoo of a pin up model on her thigh and loved the curves of the woman. She turned sideways and checked her profile from that angle. How had she not thought Tank and Link wouldn’t look? Dah, because she thought they had no interest in her. Did this mean they did?

  * * * *

“It’s a beautiful day.” Tank hummed, handing Link a cold beer and looking over the large green backyard. A swimming pool vacated the far right corner. Dania’s garden to the left and a fire pit surrounded by log benches sat in the middle of the big yard. Shit, he loved their home. He furrowed his brow. He was sure Link had something to say about his comment to Dania.

Tank released a heavy sigh took a swig, his eyes on the backyard. It wasn’t like him to get horny after women. Link was his and he was Link’s. There was no need for him to be eye fucking Dania. Shit he didn’t even know what to think about the whole situation. It was Dania! Their Dania! Their Dania that they had helped get off the streets and had had the last six years of life to share with. To become great friends with.
