Prologue
Harley studied the terrain of the area Logan had last been located. “Are you sure this was his last known location?” she asked, eyes squinting at the screen. Fuck! How come he wasn’t keeping in contact? She hated when he did this to them. Why in the fuck had Jariko and Alisha not sent more info other than he was okay? She couldn’t go on that little bit of information alone! She needed more! At least a picture or a video, something! Not just the word from one of the targets that Logan had been sent to retrieve!
Roark hovered over her, his warmth surrounding her. He narrowed his eyes on the screen and nodded. “Yeah, don’t know why you’re looking at the terrain though?” he glanced at Harley from the corner of his eye. It wasn’t like her to worry about her men like this. He furrowed his brow, wondering if she was all right.
Harley shrugged. “I was looking to see if there were any crevices that he may have fallen down?” Not that he would, the man was a professional. For him to fall down a crevice would be asinine!
Roark burst out in hearty laughter. “Goodness my love, you have lost faith in your team. The day Logan falls down a crevice is the day you and I split. Not ever going to happen.”
Harley glared at him. “You now I hate when you do that, Roark,” she grumbled. She hated the thought of ever being without him. For him to even joke made her anxious.
Roark calmed down his laughter, leaning over and pecking her on the cheek. “Calm down. Logan did not fall down any crevice,” he assured her. There was no way Logan would be so clumsy. He was sure of it.
“Well maybe a wild animal got him?” she offered, clicking closed the maps.
Roark shrugged. “Maybe?” He highly doubted that one as well. Had Logan even gotten to his target? Where the hell was he? He clenched his teeth and turned his head one way then the other, cracking the tension in his neck in annoyance.
Harley caressed his broad shoulder. “He’s fine. Logan always goes quiet.” she murmured, watching the emotion cross her husband’s face. She shouldn’t have openly worried about Logan. Not knowing Roark would worry as well. Her heart burst with love for this man who loved his team so openly.
Roark grunted. Yes, Logan went silent for a few days but weeks? No, not ever, he always made sure to check in. “Alisha and Jariko are out there hunting him,” he reminded her.
Harley shook her head. “Alisha has an announcement to make,” she murmured. Roark raised a curious brow.
“Oh?”
Harley pushed her ch
air back. “You can find out when she tells all of us. She’ll be telling all of us when we are together.”
Roark rolled his eyes, pulling his lovely wife into his embrace. “Uh-uh, you are not allowed to keep secrets,” he murmured, nuzzling her neck. He inhaled her scent and his dick jerked to life. Ahhh, how he craved this woman.
Harley giggled, hugging her arms around her man. “Yes, I can and yes I will, on this one at least. All I know is she has an announcement and I think it should be her to tell, not me.”
Roark pulled back and looked at his wife. “Serious news?”
Harley nodded. “Yes.”
Chapter One
Logan narrowed his eyes on the group. He chewed his lower lip, wondering if they were aware of him. He scanned the surrounding area, taking note of the five buildings, the children who ran to and fro.
Of course the location he was sent to was some sort of colony. Goddamn, he hated when civilians were put in potential danger.
He glanced at the mountainous hills surrounding the area. He had to admit he loved this northern country and its wild beauty. The skies were a stark blue against the dark evergreens. He inhaled a breath and sighed. Pungent moss and a mixture of pine, spruce, and everything that was nature filled his senses.
The crack of branches made him freeze and exhale slowly. He waited and listened. Could it have been a deer? He narrowed his eyes, hoping his cover was sufficient enough. He silently cursed himself. The one fucking day he decides to slack and someone or something decides to take a walk near his hiding spot!
When he heard the gun cock he swore profusely to himself. Fuckfuckfuck!
“Get up real slow and show yourself now!” demanded a husky feminine voice. Logan thought about it a moment. He could take a woman. It wouldn’t be the first time. Hated to hurt women but he had to do what needed doing. “And keep the gun on the ground!” barked the voice as he shifted to rise. He grunted, leaving his rifle in the comfort of the branches.
“Rachel, grab the rifle,” said the same voice. Logan slowly rose and watched as a figure appeared beside him, making sure to keep distance between them. Smart cookie. He locked eyes with the purest blue eyes he had ever seen in his life. He froze in place, awestruck. She was beautiful. Big blue eyes edged with thick black lashes. The daintiest nose, fuck if it didn’t make him want to reach out and caress it. Her lips, shit, he could drool over those lips. Light pink, full, and soft. Oh, to see those wrapped around his engorged cock would be a sight he would have emblazoned on his brain for the rest of his days. He had to laugh at himself. Leave it to him to think about her sucking him off at a time like this.
Deni narrowed her eyes at the lustful thoughts going through the intruder’s mind. She nodded her head at Rachel, and Rachel immediately plucked up the gun and scooted back to hide behind Deni.
Logan turned and his breath caught at the second beauty. Well shit, either this was his lucky day or he was in trouble. He supposed the second.
“You’re right. Not so much your lucky day,” she drawled as she lifted the butt of her gun toward his face.
Logan’s last memory was the pain bursting through his head, the swirl of green and blue eyes, green filled with anger, blue with concern, and then pitch black.

“Why’d you do that, Deni? It was innocent enough thoughts. Just thoughts, he had no intentions of doing those things,” Rachel argued, falling to her knees next to the handsome man, her hands caressing his attractive face.
Deni snorted. “He wants to shove his dick in your mouth, Rachel. Do you want him to shove his dick in your mouth?” she asked, kicking the man’s foot. Making sure he was out cold. There was no need for surprises. She was sure he was out but she had been fooled once. Never again would she allow that to happen.
Rachel looked over his handsome features, itching to swipe away the blood rolling down his temple. She shook her head. “No, Deni. I don’t want him to shove his dick in my mouth,” she whispered, giving in and wiping the blood from his face with the sleeve of her shirt.
Deni snorted. “Don’t lie to me, Rachel,” she chastised, kneeling opposite her. She had to remember to be patient with Rachel. When Deni had run and brought Rachel and Ben, she took responsibility of both. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have snapped. If you want his dick, that is fine. I don’t like how he thought of you as a sex toy.”
Rachel shook her head. “He thought we were beautiful, Deni.” Deni nodded. That he had. But that meant nothing. She needed to know what he was doing out here looking for them. She had sensed his presence days ago and had been watching him watch them. The thoughts he had scared her. The memories that had flooded his mind as he had laid here day in day out, watching and observing them. This man had seen many things in his young life. Many things no man should ever see happen to other humans. She studied his features further. Wrinkles forked out at the corner of his eyes. He looked peaceful now in his forced slumber, but if you took the time to really observe him… His life had aged him.
“Do you really think there are others like us out there who got away?” Rachel asked.
Big blue eyes turned to Deni and sucked her in. Oh, the things those eyes could do to people. Hypnotize you, distract you for that fraction of time giving her the upper hand to take you down brutally. Deni looked away from those eyes. She had seen Rachel at work. A man had approached her and had not too nice thoughts of the things he could do to little Rachel. Rachel all but looked into his eyes, smiled with her perfect mouth, and seconds later had the man under her power and his spine in her hand, blood dripping. Yes, Deni knew better than to spend too much time staring into those hypnotizing eyes.
Deni shrugged. “You heard his thoughts. We know what he already knows.” There was no point in even having the conversation. This man, Logan, was sent here to retrieve them and return them to his leader. She scrunched up her nose. There was no way she was returning anywhere. She looked past Rachel and caught sight of Ben ducking through thick branches to get to them. She would not risk exposing them to the horrors of where they came from. No way in hell. Not again.

Logan lay still, making sure to keep his breathing as even as possible as he listened to the sounds around him. Soft breathing, the crackle of a fire, the shift of, he assumed, feet. He could feel heat on him, around him. Had they covered him up? He assessed his physical state. He was free from any binds. His hands lay at his side, nothing constricting his feet. What the fuck?
“There is no need to tie you.” replied the husky feminine voice. His upper lip twitched in annoyance. He was really starting not to like that voice. “Be as annoyed as you want.” replied the same voice.
“Look, lady, I’m not here to hurt you,” he replied, opening his eyes, surprised to see the beauty standing over him. He glanced past her, spotted the cute little one, then a burly man beside her, rifle in hand and aimed at him. His heart thudded. What the hell had he walked into here? He was sure the report had said genetically engineered, extreme strength, and brain chips. “Whoa… no need for that,” he hummed. He hoped to god that fellow didn’t have an itchy trigger finger.
“The chips have been removed, they were mind control. Yes, we can kill you easily with our bare hands,” the woman with the husky voice shared.
“Deni, no, why tell him?” growled the man.
Deni looked at Ben. “This man, Logan, was sent here for us. He had information.” She turned her gaze back to Logan. “We will not go with you. This is our home, you do not have any right to come here and try to take us away,” she ordered. There was no way she was leaving this place. She had found her peace here and was prepared to do anything to keep it that way.
Logan eased to a sitting position, keeping his gaze on the man with the gun. Dizziness struck him and he held still. “Look, lady, I’m not here to hurt you.”
Deni shook her head. “That was what the last man said! Do not tell me you are not here to take us back!” she yelled. Logan raised an assessing
brow. Others had already come for them. So their location wasn’t secret. Damn, this chick was a bit of a hothead. “I am not a hothead!” she uttered.
Logan chuckled. “What the fuck! Can you literally read my mind?” Whoa, this was not good. Wait, maybe this would help him.
Deni narrowed her eyes at him. “Do not make up lies in your thoughts.”
Logan shifted his body, his bare feet coming to rest on the wood floor. He assessed the two at the fire. “’Kay, I’m not even going to try to have a private thought. My name is Logan Brone. I work for someone like you. Her name is Harley. She is a clone, a cyborg. Her skeletal structure is titanium, her flesh was engineered, and there are others like you out there. We have found them and have them all in a safe location. The man you killed I’m guessing is your watcher. All of you have watchers. They keep tabs on you. Watch and learn what you do, see how you’re excelling through whatever program they have designed for you.” He looked at the three. “My team wants to bring you in so you can be with the others. The…” He grimaced. Did these people really know what they were capable of? He looked at the one named Deni. She gave a slight nod. Okay, that answered that one. “Can you all read my mind?” he asked, looking at the three. The cute one nodded. The man grunted and looked away. Logan looked up at Deni. She nodded. Okay, she was being cooperative. This was good. At least he had a chance to speak his peace.
Deni nodded for Ben to put the rifle away. This man was not going to hurt them. She wasn’t sure what part of her manmade brain told her that, but she was sure they would be safe with him. For the time being anyway. Perhaps it was the little bit of humanity she’d had before they had made her what she was. Either way, she would listen to what this Logan had to say.
